Southwest (Texas/Arizona/New Mexico?) vacation – looking for recommendations?

Looking for a safe, quiet clean area in Southwest for a vacation for my wife and I. We’re both in our 30s, looking at decompressing. We’d be happy with some quaint little city, hopefully with a nice clean beach, local shops and dining. We both like exploring art, foot, etc. We’re not high maintenance, so don’t need high end. It’s hard to find out about the smaller towns, so looking for advice. We both have high stress jobs, so looking for quite and relaxing. Wouldn’t mind if it was an hour or two outside of a large city. Bed and breakfast, affordable hotel, etc. are all fine.

You gotta go to White Sands, New Mexico. It’s nice as hell and fun running up the sand dunes. Whitest sand I’ve ever seen. Take a empty bottle and fill it up w/ the sand [don't know if it'd legal but who cares]. Went when I was younger and I still remember it like it was yesterday :D

  3. Kohl’s Ranch Lodge in Payson, AZ. Located along what is known as "the rim", as well as known for author Zane Grey’s association with the locale. GREAT for a little bit of history with a quaint, rustic feel. Close to Sedona, AZ, one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL places on earth, as well as close to the Grand Canyon. Lake Powell is also nearby, where you can find a myriad of activities and beaches. This was one of the most memorable trips I had as a child, and I continue to frequent it today. :) I hope this helps. It really is the most beautiful part of Arizona and is a MUST SEE!

Santa Fe New Mexico. Great hotels, great food. Drive up in to the mountains to Agua Caliente New Mexico and take advantage of their spa and relaxed attitude, then explore Native American ruins. Awesome.

  5. EIther Santa Fe, NM, or Tucson, AZ. Bit more crime in the latter, but either will have lots of things to do. (A beach? In the SW? A couple of lakes, but nothing to rave about.)
